Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 9, 2026
Focus Meter is designed with a simple privacy principle: your data never leaves your Mac.
TL;DR
- The Focus Meter app collects no data. Everything stays on your Mac.
- This website stores your email address if you join the newsletter.
- This website stores the email and message you send through the support form, so we can reply to you.
- This website uses standard web analytics (PostHog, Google Analytics) to improve the page.
- App data and website data are kept entirely separate.
The Focus Meter app
What the app collects
While tracking is active, Focus Meter records the following on your Mac:
- Which application is in the foreground (app name and bundle identifier)
- The URL of the active browser tab in supported browsers (Chrome, Safari, Brave, Edge), if you have enabled browser URL tracking
- Timestamps for when you switch between applications
- Idle periods (when no keyboard or mouse input is detected)
This data is used locally to calculate your Focus Score, generate productivity reports, and display your activity history. None of it is uploaded, transmitted, or shared with us or anyone else.
Where your data is stored
All data is stored locally on your Mac in a SQLite database within the application’s data directory. Focus Meter does not operate any servers. There is no cloud storage, no remote database, and no external service that receives your data.
Your data resides at:
~/Library/Application Support/FocusMeter/
The database file is protected by standard macOS file permissions and the app’s sandbox, so only Focus Meter and your user account can read it.
What the app does not collect
Focus Meter does not collect, transmit, or store:
- Keystrokes or text input
- Screenshots or screen recordings
- File contents or document names
- Email content or message content
- Passwords or authentication credentials
- Device identifiers or hardware serial numbers
- Location data
- Contacts, calendar events, or photos
- Crash reports or diagnostic data
- Analytics or usage telemetry
The Focus Meter app makes zero network requests. It does not connect to the internet for any purpose. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporting service, and no telemetry of any kind. The app does not integrate with, send data to, or receive data from any third-party service.
Browser URL tracking
When browser URL tracking is enabled, Focus Meter uses macOS Automation (Apple Events) to read the URL of the active tab in supported browsers. You can control this behavior in Settings:
- Disable URL tracking entirely (only app names are recorded)
- Record root domain only (e.g., “github.com” instead of the full URL path)
- Ignore incognito / private browsing windows
Browser URL tracking requires your explicit permission via the macOS Automation prompt. You can revoke this permission at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Automation. As with everything else in the app, the URLs you record stay on your Mac.
Mac App Store purchases
When you buy Focus Meter from the Mac App Store, Apple collects payment and account information (your Apple ID, payment method, billing details, and device information) per Apple’s Privacy Policy. Focus Meter never receives any of this data — we don’t see your name, email, payment method, or Apple ID. The transaction happens entirely between you and Apple.
Data export and deletion
You own your data. You can:
- Export all focus data as CSV or JSON at any time from the app
- Delete all data from within the app (Settings > Delete All Data)
- Manually delete the database file from your filesystem
- Uninstall the app, which removes all associated data

What this website collects
Unlike the app, this marketing website does collect a small amount of data. This data lives on web servers, not on your Mac, and is entirely separate from anything the Focus Meter app records.
Newsletter email
If you submit your email through the newsletter form, we store it so we can notify you about Focus Meter’s launch and major updates. We do not sell, rent, or share your email with anyone, and we do not use it for advertising. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, or by emailing support@focus-meter.com.
Support requests
If you submit the support form at focus-meter.com/support, we store your email address, the category you picked, and the message you wrote (along with optional name, subject, and app version if you provide them) so we can respond to your question or investigate the issue. We do not sell, rent, or share this information with anyone, and we do not use it for advertising. You can request deletion of your support request at any time by emailing support@focus-meter.com.
Web analytics
This website uses PostHog and Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the page. These services collect standard web analytics data including IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and referring sites. We use this information in aggregate to improve the website.
These analytics services are loaded only on this website. They are not bundled with the Focus Meter app, and they have no way to see anything you do inside the app. The app remains 100% offline and silent.
Data controller
For the data collected on this website (newsletter email, support requests, and web analytics), the data controller is:
Dung Quoc Le
support@focus-meter.com
For data inside the Focus Meter app, you are the sole data controller — that data lives on your Mac and we have no access to it.
Children’s privacy
Focus Meter is designed for adult professionals tracking their own productivity. It is not intended for use by children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children, either through the app or this website.
Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at focus-meter.com/privacy-policy with the revision date noted at the top.

App data
No personal data is collected, transmitted, or processed by us. All app data resides exclusively on your device, under your control. Because there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on our side, traditional GDPR data subject requests do not apply to app data.

- Access the data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion
- Withdraw consent at any time (e.g., unsubscribe from the newsletter)
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
